Metal cation complexes as dispersing agents for non-aqueous powder suspensions

Formulation of high solid load slurries is an important aspect in achieving dense, quality ceramic green body shaping by additive manufacturing techniques. To this end, the understanding and control interparticle interactions non-aqueous organic slurry systems imperative. With nanosized powders gaining increasing interest, particle stabilization long-chain polymeric dispersants undesirable due to exclusion volume associated subsequent decrease maximum suspension. In study, we focus on mechanisms provided metal cation complexes methyl ethyl ketone isopropanol-based spinel slurries. Special given chromium (III) 2-ethylhexanoate. Hemi-micelle formation at powder surface suggested as a highly efficient mechanism. Complexes dopant cations may open new pathways towards future advances formulation, especially field manufacturing. Furthermore, importance solvation forces discussed basis protic or aprotic character solvent used.
